Intro
Paintball Addicts was one of my first projects. They wanted a simple, easy to use, website that would provide a lot of information to the user. The fact that this site was coded completely in HTML I spent a large amount of time on designing a good interface to provide information.
What is the importance?
The major importance about this artifact was that this site was designed only to present information and to do that effectively. When you want to be a web Developer you will get projects that are designed to sell stuff as the previous artifact shows and projects that a designed purely to provide the users with information. This is two completely different styles when one approaches the project. This shows that not only can I design interfaces that are focused to sell product but also create interfaces that allow the user maximum access to information.
What Skills were acquired
As this was my first project that I had worked on, the major skilled that was gained here was how to create an interface that both looked good and was user friendly. I had never spent much time on interface design up to this point and the creation of this interface really set off my design career. On this project was the first time that I realized that I really enjoyed creating interfaces and the design aspect of web development. Also I gained tremendous amounts of HTML knowledge with this project being that this was a static straight HTML page.
What went well
On this project the one thing that I can say went very well was the transition from development to the production environment. By this I mean that taking the website from a development stage where I had created it on a local machine to the production environment when it was made live to the public went extremely well. Everything went smoothly and had no major errors. This could be partly due to the fact that it was just HTML but it still went very well.
What needs to change
The one thing that I would change would be not to use static HTML for the site. While this think that I learned a lot and it was a good starting point, I believe that I could have present the client with a much better product in the end using a technology such as ASP .NET. While the site is good and serve the purpose of providing information all the information that it does provide is static there is no location for new news or up to date information.
